ARBITRATION COURT.
THE SHEARERS' CASE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Canterbury shearers' dispute wastaken by the Arbitration Court to-day. Evidence was given by the employers, after which Mr. Laracy, representing the Shearers' Union, said he had no evidence to call. The president of the Court, Mr. Justice Sim, asked if theUnion would abide by the award of tihs Court.
Mr. Laracy said "Yes," but qualified this by saying that if the award was lewthan 20s a hundred the shearers would be advised to cease to be workers within the meaning of the Act. Under these circumstances, the Court was adjourned till to-morrow, when the employers will say whether they want the award rate of wages to be fixed or whether they prefer freedom of contract, the Court arranging, all other conditions.
