The search steamer returned without finding any trace, of the missing boat of the Carnarvon Bay. y A BANK CLERK'S CLAIM. Received September 20, 9 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. At the District Court an ex-bank clerk claimed from the Bank of Australasia the amount deducted from his wages during fifteen years' service towards the bank's guarantee and provident funds. The 'bank pleaded that the deduction had been made with plaintiff's assent, and conditional that he could make no claim upon them. After argument, plaintiff's counsel accepted a non-suit. THE MANUKA'S HORSES; Received September 20, 9 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. The Manuka's horses arrived in good condition. ALLEGED SWEATING. Melbourne, September 20. The report of the National AntiSweating League instances watchmen working for 120 hours weekly, married clerks receiving £1 a week," and wool clerks working long hours of overtime without pay. TWO BROTHERS DROWNED. Sydney, September 20. Two brothers named Talbot Dunham and Purvis Dunham, aged 29 and 31 years, were drowned while bathing in a dam at Wa!langra. Another brother was recently drowned in the same district MUMPS ON THE POWERFUL. Sydney, September 20. H.M.S. Powerful has left the harboui owing to a serious outbreak of mumps.
VICTORIAN TRADE. Melbourne, September 20. The value of Victoria's imports last year was £28,150,188, and of her exports' £29,896,175. The combined total is a record.
FLOODS IN VICTORIA. Melbourne, September 20. Flood waters in the Natimuk district are still rising, and the towns of Garoke and Gunbower are cut off from railway communication. A CLERGYMAN'S RESIGNATION. Sydney, September 20. Tlie Rev. Mr. Paterson, of Broken Hill, regrets his resignation. He says •that he was suffering from mental collapse and that now he is convinced of the sympathy of the people his resignation will be withdrawn. DEATH OF A MISSIONARY. Sydney, September 20. News has been received of the sudden death of the Rev. Mr. Neville jn Germany. Deceased was the senior missionary in Samoa.
