A DUEL

HUSBAND AND WIFE EXCHANGE SHOTS.

HUSBAND DEAD-WIFE WOUNDED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received September 20, 9.50 p.m. Berne, September 20. An' extraordinary duel between husband and wife in the gaslight of a principal street has occurred. Madame Remonda, a kiosk keeper, was divorced from Gregorio, who had been imprisoned for maltreating his wife. The latter, returning, from her work, was shot in 'the back, and fell. Rising to her knees she drew a revolver, which she had carried in her blouse since the maltreatment, and returned her husband's fire at a distance of 25 yards. The crowd was panic stricken. Each of the duellists fired five shots. Gregorio was shot in the head, and died. His wife was thrice wounded, but will probably recover.
