ATTEMPTED ESCAPE. By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright Melbourne, September 20. Ernest Peck, while being conveyed to Bairnsdale to stand his trial on a charge of having murdered his wife, jumped from the train, but was quickly recaptured. Peck and his wife agreed to commit suicide. They were found with their throats cut. The wife died, but the husband recovered. He first said that they cut their own throats, then that he had cut his wife's throat as well as his owb.
