Griffiths and Co., New Plymouth, are in receipt.of the following market report from their London principals, Messrs Mills and .Sparrow, dated August 5, 1910: . The weather during the early part oi the week was fine and sunny, and we were hoping that tt. last we had struck some real summer weather, but it soon changed, and heavy , rains prevailed m most°parts\of the country. This continued rain has had a very bad effect on the hay crop, which, at 'One time looked most promising, but the hay in many districts is .very poor in quality and quite a lot has been absolutely spoilt by the continuous rain. ' Danish: The quotation has been reduced two kroner: This was rather unexpected, as the market was steady and most of the best dairies were clearing fairly well, but the quality all round is not quite up to the usual standard,, and quite a few dairies have ibeen rejected, and this has had thfe : effect of weakening the market just a little. > Siberian: The arrivals this week amounted to about 14,000 casks, this being about 7000 less than last week. There is still a'large proportion of secondary quality, but the demand on this trade has improved somewhat, as buyers are now beginning to recognise that the market is not likely to go lower. French: The market remains steady. This season is certainly not so favorable for production as the last one, and- imports to this country show a decided decrease. Australian and New Zealand: There has been very little doing this week in colonial butter, and we are afraid it will be a few weeks hence ibefore buyers are ready. There is practically no change in the position, and although Danish'was reduced two kroner this week, the general market is, if anything, somewhat ; firmer, as imports of all kinds into this 1 market continue to show a decrease, whifch proves that- the supply of foreign butter is falling off rapidly, so that this market will be quite ready for new season's Australian as soon as it arrives. Cheese.—New Zealand: The market has advanced on smaller supplies, old cheese being wanted. There is no doubt that everything will now clear up at good price?. Canadian: There has been a good trade passing, and prices remain about the same as last week. ( =====
