By Telegraph.—Press Association. Blenheim, Saturday Night. A football' match for the Swldon shield was played to-day between Marlborough and the West Coast. A hard fought game ended Marlborough 10. West Coast 8. In the first half there was no score. For the winners Strickland and C. Hegglun scored tries, O'Brien converting both. Brown scored for the , Coast, E. Irving converting, and also kicking a penalty goal. Marlborough retains possession of the shield. WELLINGTON v. CANTERBURY. Wellington, Saturday Night. The Rugby match Canterbury v. Wellington, played to-day, resulted in a win for Wellington by 20 points to 9. The .weather was fine, but a high wind waa blowing from the north. The teams were evenly matched, despite the scores. The winners deserved every point they got, the local backs being superior to the visitors, this being counterbalanced by the superiority of the Canterbury forwards. Some very clever passing was indulged in during the game by both sides, Wellington's handling of the ball being more accurate' than their opponents. Tries for Wellington were obtained by Dawson (2), Grace (2), McLeod, and Irvine; for Canterbury by Taylor (2), and Lyes. Kinvig converted four of Wellington's tries. AUCKLAND v. NORTHERN WAIROA. Saturday Night. The representative football match today between Auckland and Northern Wairoa resulted in a victory for the former by 9 points to 6. THE ASSOCIATION GAME. M OTAGO v. "SOUTHLAND.' Dunedin, Saturday Night. The Association football match, Otago v. Southland, was played to-day in dull weather. The high wind made good play difficult. The game was won by Otago by 2 goals to nil. A SCHOOLBOYS' MATCH. Dunedin, Saturday Night. (Prior to the above match Wellington and Otago school teams met and spectators were treated to an exhibition of clever footwork. Wellington were heavier in the aggregate though their forwards were lighter, and their youthful backs were largely responsible for keeping down the score of Otago, who were the superior team. At halfrtime Otago led by 2 goals to 1. Wellington equalised early in the second spell, but five minutes before time Otago scored the -winning goal.
