On Thursday afternoon, September 29, the New Plymouth Club will hold an afternoon for members' wives and lady friends. A committee has been set up to make all arrangements for an enjoyable afternoon. 1 A musical programme will be submitted.

At t'he mart on 'Saturday, Messrs. Webster Bros, realised 2s 2d each for a pen of two-weeks'-old Pekin ducklings. These are in keen demand at present in anticipation of an exceptionally good market at Christmas and New Year.

Great interest is being taken in the social which is to be held in the Rolland Hall this evening. The fact that six valuable and useful prizes (three ladies' and three gents') are to be presented for the euchre tournament is sure to attract a large .number of competitors. The prizes are on view in Mr. J. Bennett's window, Devon street. We have been requested to remind ticket holders that the euchre competition starts puctually at 8 o'clock. After supper a dance will be held. Admission: Ladies Is, gents Is 6d.
