DISTRICT NEWS.
From Our Own Correspondents.) WAIONGOXA. This week has been a quiet one, but the weather has been fine and warm, and the grass is growing and the cows are •coming in. The season will be a record one for Waiongona, for there will be miany new suppliers, when the factory opens, and all the present suppliers are increasing their dairy herds. The creamery is practically completed, but the mashincry is not set up. Work on the water-race is being pushed on vigorously, and the dam will be commenced soon. Mr. Moore, the Education Board's overseer, is busy effecting repairs at the school and the teacher's residence. The last of the series of euchre parties was held on Friday evening. KAIMIRO. A cribbage match was played here last Tuesday night between Egmont Village and Kaimiro, twelve men a-side. After a well contested game Egmont Village won by one game. , I think the "man in blue" would do well to pay us a visit when there is anything on in the hall. There are several young fellows that want looking after. 'Mr. A. J. Taylor, our local creamery manager, has got the new skim milk tank just about finished. The iSas'h and Door Co.'s sawmill hands are putting in good time just now. They are in a good clump of bush. | The cows are coming in everywhere now. You can hear the melodious voice of the calves at all times and in all places. . TIKORANGI. As instancing the steady growth of the dairy industry, it may be mentioned that although there was a large increase of butter made at the local factory last year, as compared with the year before, yet at the present time the dairy output is five boxes greater than at the corresponding date 'last year. It is satisfactory to (know that this increase is due solely to the greater productiveness of our farms, brought ajbout by a more generous system of treating our land. Indeed, it would be perhaps difficult to find a soil that so readily responds to liberal manuring as does that of Taranaki. '
The Library Committee have every reason to be gratified with the results of their efforts in connection with the annual concert which was held on Thursday eyening. The programme was one of the best yet presented at Tikorangi, and a fine night, coupled, with the wellknown reputation of those who were taking part, ensured a crowded house. About £l'li was taken at the doors, j This will be a welcome addition to the funds of the committee. At the conclusion of . the concert, Mr. L. N. Faull warmly thanked those who had so kindly assisted, and supper was then handed round, after which the room was cleared for a dance. Mr. I. C. Davidson and Mr. A. Jupp were efficient and obliging M'sC., and the music, which was supplied by Mrs. Arnold George's orchestra, was of the usual high standard of merit that] can always be depended upon from this talented combination.
