, MILITARY BALL. The Taranaki Rifles held their annual ball in the Theatre Royal last Thursday evening and was a great success. The hall was beautifully decorated with bunting and Chinese lanterns, wiule the supper table was charmingly arranged with daffodils and violets, intermingled with all the dainty and appetising dishes of tie season. Mrs.'' Woods' orchestra rendered excellent music, Mr. H. Willis made an untiring and energetic secretary. The ladies' committee . consisted of Mesdames Tisch (Mayoress), Dockrill. E. M. Smith, Sandford, Joseph, O'Driscoll, Fletcher, Bach, R. Jury, and Clarke. Amongst those present were:— Mrs. Fletcher, salmon pink satin, fin-' ished with cream lace. Mrs. Dockrill, black satin. STRATFORD. "The Brass Bottle," under the management of Mr. J. C. Williamson, was staged here on Tuesday night. The staging was effective and smartly 'managed. The dresses worn by the principals were simply perfect. Seldom has so large an audience seemed so appreciative, and judging from the unstinted applause everyone must have enjoyed the piece thoroughly. Among those present I noticed Mesdames Budge, Young, Carbery, E. C. Robinson, Ford, Menzies, Stubibs, Paget. Harrison (Eltham), Fookes, Wilkinson (Eltham), Penn, Anderson, Webster. Stohr, Fussell, McDonald, Parkinson (Midhirst), Ash ton, Rhodes, Moses, Fussell, McDonald 1 , Glynes, Harrison (England), Paget, etc. Mrs. Max Day, of Wellington, is spending a few days in Stratford.
