DEMONSTRATION IN WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A no-license demonstration was held to-night in the Town Hall, which was crowded. Mr. Wesley Spragg, of Auckland, president of the New Zealand Alliance, occupied the chair. Among those on the platform were, the Hon. C. M. Luke, M.L.C., Messrs. T. E. Taylor, Malcolm, Poole, Wright, and J. P. Luke, M. P.'s, several clergymen, eight members of the Trades and Labour Council, and several officers of the Salvation Army. Messrs. Leonard M. Isitt and the Rev. R. S. Gray were unable to attend' owing to illness. The chairman spoke of the importance of the movement, and said they wanted to rush forward the no-license cause at a faster rate than previously. Mr. C. H. tPoole, M.P., said that any demonstration which refused their demands endangered its position. iMr. A. S. Adams, of Dunedin, said the people had been thwarted in their desires for reform because the law was not sufficiently far-reaching. Mr. T. E. Taylor said they wanted legislation this session. Unless they got' this, they would be forced into politics as a party. He moved that this meeting expresses its conviction that the time has arrived when the right of the people to determine the continuance of the liquor traffic on the basis of the democracy, should no longer be,denied, it therefore calls upon the Government to introduce, without delay, a measure securing this right, and at the same time making a provision for taking a vote on Dominion prohibition; such a measure also to provide for all necessary amendments to the existing licensing law, as shall make effective the will of the people as expressed at the ballot box. Mr. Malcolm, M.P., seconded the resolution, which was carried unanimously.
