THE "UP-TO-DATE" DISPLAY.
A very fine display of spring wear, profuse and 'beautiful enough to please the most fastidious and exacting lady critic, is being made at Herbert's "Up-to-Date." This firm is always well to thef fore with early novelties, and this >eason is doing more than usual to sus;ain its title of "Up-to-Date." Prominent u the display is quite a touch of the )rient, in the quantities of Japanese vear, rich and effective kimono gowns, Japanese embroidered robes and blouse )ieces, Japanese embroidered napery on 'eal Irish linen, Japanese crepes in plain 'olors and effective combinations of ihades. The "Up-to-Date" is entirely a adies' house. Ladies' wear is their specialty, and judging by the display of milinery, ready-bo-wear costumes and jlouses, skirts and underclothing, they mderstand well the art of specialising, fa the millinery rooms chic Parisian Models and English confections are displayed. Prominent stands out a large shape in the new putty shade, profusely dimmed with French, roses in delicate iints, lined richly with guipure. The ratty effect has been quite a feature in English hats this season. A rich model n Natier blue, Paisley lined, with a iharply turned brim, bunches of cornJowera and touches of cerise, is just a picture. Hundireds of untrimmeds are ihown in every conceivable fashionable thade, make and style; and there are •ich garnitures in flowers, floral trails, ea, hers, gimps and buckles in the new ihorfc effects. This is to be an embroidiry season, land there are embroideries rom the narrow edging to the full width 'or Empire gowns; from the small insertion to the wide ;S"wiss hand-finished >louse fronting, wide camisole in bold lew effects, skirt and underskirt emwoidered widths, a truly lovely array; ! rom the simple embroidered blouse to she richly embroidered Empire gown or ;wo-piece robe and costume. Ladies' inderclofching always lias been a strong eature with Herbert's. A choice showng is made of piece goods in all the ihades so much demanded. Paisley effects are showing quite prominently, in lat scarves, dress muslins and ribbons. The new Shantungs, linens in plain and itripes, voiles in new effects, self-striped md plain; a rich lot of beautifully blendid Organdie muslins, crepons and crystaines, quite Oriental effects in shades and lesigns, that mark a pleasing departure rom the stereotyped goods so long in rogue. There are huge piles of smart 'ambrice and prints. It promises to be [uite a gay season for ladies, with no tint of choice in either color, material >r range of pattern effects.
