DISTRICT NEWS.
WAIONGONA. .(From Our Own Correspondent* ) We have been experiencing lovely weather here these last few days, and the] farmers have taken full advantage of it to plough and otherwise prepare their fields. The dairy industry is now in full swing, but mortality amongst cows has been fairly heavy, .several farmers losing some of their best cows.
Petty thieving is again rife about here. A local farmer lost one of his 'best calves the other night, hut not heing content with the calf alone, the guilty person or persons also took the bucket. Parts of ploughs, pig troughs, etc., have also ibeen ■•lifted" in various parts of the district.
There is some talk of forming a tennis club here. Tf one were formed it would be sure to be a success, as there are many enthusiastic players around here, but who have no chance of practising unless invited to participate in a game on a private lawn.
