Stratford, Last Night. A handicap sweepstake of the Stratford Gun Club was won by Mr. Wickham (Ngaere). Mr. H. Wilson, of Stratford, returned last night after a trip to the Old Country. Word has ibeen received in Stratford that Mr. E. Branniswn. who went to Te Aroha in charge pf cattle for Mr. Walters, lias had the misfortune to break his arm. • Stratford 'fLaw an'" Banks" proved too strong for the Eltham representatives of finance and lav/ at football, defeating them by 44 points to 3. The mrdal presented by the Education Department for the champion cadet shot of each province, and which for Taranaki was won by E. M. Wyllie, Of the local school cadets, has come to Gaud, and will be presented at the next battalion parade.

The case of T. H. Henderson against J. Ceballo, a claim for £2OO damages for alleged neglect in sowing gra?=s seed, has been settled, it was annoum-ed today, out of Court. With the settlement is included the abandonment of n pending Supreme Court action by Ceballo' against Henderson. A rather novel announ"ement was made at the conclusion of the Valdares' entertainment last night, when Mr. Val■dare, after thanking the audience for their attendance and congratulating Stratford on its Town Hall, went on to remark that the scenery was suffering through neglect and lack of care. "As you people own it, or at least have paid for it, T think it only fair that you should know the state of affairs," concluded Mr. Valdare.
