THE KING'S DESIGNATION. By Telegraph.—rress Association. Wellington, Friday. A letter recently received by the Mayor from the editor of the Daily Express, London, suggesting that King George should on the day of his coronation proclaim himself Emperor of the British, has been considered by the City Council, which decided that it had no suggestion to make. THE MEAT TRADE. Wellington, Friday. A private cable received in Gisborne states that Mr. Lysnar, Mayor of Gisborne, is investigating the question of the disposal and handling of New Zealand produce and submitted a written report to a meeting of New Zealanders in London on Wednesday making a number of important suggestions. The meeting appointed a committee to investigate and report. Among others the committee comprises Messrs. M'Curdy, Rutherford, and Reece.
SUGAR BEET INDUSTRY. Levin, Friday. A public meeting has been convened by the Mayor of Levin for next Tuesday to consider the advisableness ot establishing the sugar beet industry in Horowhenua County, also linseedgrowing and prospecting the ranges for gold and other minerals. The sugar beet movement is favourably considered here. FLOUTING THE AUTHORITIES. Wellington, Friday. The Sir Wilfred Tent of Rechabitcs was proceeded against in the Magistrate's Court to-day for having failed to send in its annual return of income and expenditure as required by the Friendly Societies Act, 1000. Mr. Ostler, for the Crown Law Department, asked for a heavy penalty, because the society, he said, had flouted the au- j thorities for some time. A fine of £2O and costs was imposed.
