BOWLING.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. There was ;>. good attendance of members at the New Plymouth Bowling Clubs annual meeting on Thursday night. 'All - . (.;. Gray, the president, presided. TliG annual report and balance-sheet were submitted by the secretary, and adopted, the reporting being as follows: —The committee, in presenting their report for the past year, congratulate the club upon its continued prosperity. The number on the roll now stands at 101 playing and five honorary members. The club was represented at the Taranaki Bowling Association's tournament at Eltham. Our representatives succeeded in winning the champion shield. The next tournament will be held at Inglewood, and it is expected that this will prove as interesting and as popular as the former tournaments. As instructed by the special general meeting held in March, the committee have had the green enlarged by two rinks. It was thought advisable to set up a special sub-committee to attend to this matter and the committee asked Mr. Brooking to gave us his assistance, which he very kindly did. A contract was let to Mr. P. Hansen; and the work was well done, although the contractor was hampered by unfavorable weather. The committee desire to express their thanks to Mr. Brooking for the time and attention he gave to the supervision of the work. The statement of receipts and expenditure shows that the financial position'.of the club is very satisfactory. With deep regret we have to record the loss by death of our esteemed friends, Messrs IfTerson, J. 0. George, Crease and Morshead. Owing to the large number, of playing members fihd consequent lengthened time occupied in playing off club matches, the committee suggest to the club the advisability of discontinuing all club matches except the '■Cup" match and pos-ibly a match for beginners, and requests the club's direction regarding this. This, of course, would not apply to prizes donated by members or others. Matches for such prizes would be carried out under the club's auspices, and in such cases the committee suggests that no entrance fee be charged and the whole of the value donated be given to the winners. At the special general meeting in March, there was some discussion as to advisability of reducing the limit of 110 playing members. In view of the greater playing space on the green by the extention referred to above and the heavy extra expense thereby incurred, the committee suggests that it would not be advisable to reduce the membership limit at present. Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mr. Geo. Gray (re-elected): vicepresidents, Messrs Collins and T. Avery; committee, Messrs R. Cock, W. F. Brooking. C. W. Govett, A. K. Smart, O. N. Firth. T). Tv. Morrison: secretary, Mr. W. X. Ewiina (re-elected); auditor. Mr. Ahier.
A bonus of 15 guineas Was voted to the secretary, whose services to the club weiv warmly eulogised. The caretaker was voted a bonus of £5.
