STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Nteht. A conferende of the New Plymouth, Hawera and Stratford Hospital Boards was held this morning to consider the question of fees for members of th« Friendly Societies Hospitals Association. - Messrs. Amoore, Trenflftrnon ®nd I Hobbs waited on the conference and asked that the fees be reduced from 5s to 4s per, day for the members of the association. . It teas pointed out that the pembership of thp association was over 1300, and at the present rate it was impossible to carry on. Stress was laid on the point that, in the case of any rpember going into the .hospital the association, guaranteed tr.? payment of the fees. After a lengthy discussion, Mr. Ward moved and Air. Porritt seconded: "That Mr. Marehant be the representative of the Stratford Board at the conference, and as under the existing circumstances the balance of voting power is with the local board; that the conference to consider the request of the deputation consist of one member from each board." The resolution was carried, and the members of the I conference and deputation withdrew. On returning, Mr. Marehant moved: "That , the Stratford Board reduce the charge I to 4s 0d a day, provided that the other boards do the sam 6." Mr. Maxwell seconded the resolution which was carried. At the meeting or the Stratford Hospital Board to-day the visiting committee reported that all the grounds were in good order at the hospital; that Messrs. Irvine and Henry had completed the erection of the toolhouse, porch ana cupboard; that , the hitching posts had been erected; and that the fencing of the garden' was completed. The medical superintendent recommended four filters be procured. The were empowered to attend to tender of Davis and- Wishart cepted for improvements to the Mr. Ward moved that enquiries be from the New Plymouth and Hawelß Hospitals,, as to the maximum and mum fees charged for operations. Seconded by Mr. Marfel and carried. The medical ' superintendent recommended that the Board reconsider its decision as to the, site, of the isolation ward. After a personal inspection of the grounds the BoaTd agreed that the Visiting Committee, the medical superintendent, arid the matron, after receiving the plans from the Department, go into the matter and report at the next meeting. Mr. W. G. Dixon, manager of the Stratford branch of. It. Hannah and Co., leaves to-morrow on a holiday trip to Australia. ' 3£r. C. B. Lever, at one time a member of Mr. Newton King's staff at Stratford and at present a resident of Te Kuiti, is on a visit to Stratford. Ala effort is being made to revive the cricket club in Stratford. The chief reason of failure in the-past has been the Khftence of a ground on which the game could be played without the players running an unreasonable risk of getting hurt. How this is' to be got over is still the problem, nor does there appear any possible chance of a permanent solution until the recreation tsronuds are vested in a public body which can , afford to expend money.on their upk"*p.
