James,Aitchison, seventy years of age, who resided with his family in St. Albans, was suffocated by his bed catching Are early this morning. He was a rather heavy smoker, and apparently had been smoking in bed. It is assumed that a spark from his pipe must have ignited th« .bedding. When hla wife went to take him a cup of tea she found that the room was filled wjth smoke. Her son managed to get his father out of the room, 'but he was quite dead. Deceased had been suffering from asthma and 'bronchitis for some time past. At the inquest a verdict of death from asphyxia was returned.
