,TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE ..AND TALLOW SALE. MR. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. r On Tuesday, August 30, I held my usual four-weekly sale of above produce. The catalogue comprised 18 'bales and 120 sacks wool, 3225 sheepskins, 22 casks and 80 tins tallow, 1358 hides, and 3213 calfskins. There was a large attendance of buyers and competition was brisk. Orutchings were in better demand, and sold as high as Od per lb., showing an advance of y 4 d to y 2 d. Dry and damp sheepskins met with excellent competition, and showed a rise of. y 4 d to y a & per lb. 'Salted lines sold at prices equal to those ruling at my last sale. Cow hides advanced %d, while ox were %d to y 2 d higher; in fact, a few lines of good-conditioned ox showing substance were %d to Id above late rates, and sold as high as 455, 60s 6d, 52s to 57s per hide. Calfskins sold about the same as last sale, with the exception of a few special lines, which were y 2 d per lb higher. Tallow declined 5s per ton.
