MAORI TROUPE'S RETURN
A SUCCESSFUL TRIP. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Friday. Mr. Farmer Whyte, manager of the! Eotorua Maori troupe, returned by thei Mokoia from the United States with twenty-seven Maoris. Thirteen of the 1 party of forty that left on the tour returned last month. In an interview Mr. White said that the tour was a financial success f,or the Maoris, and also of great educational value. Trouble arose over Sunday performances. The terms of engagement stipulated for no Sunday work, but the troupe was sub let in New York for performances in Chicago, and legal proceedings 1 being too costly and uncertain, the Maoris had to perform on Sundays under the subletting arrangement. Had they been willing to perform on Sundays the tour could have been extended for five months more. All returned well. Mr. Whyte speaks highly of the behaviour of the Maori committee assisting him.
