Humphries. The latter is to he congratulated on the completeness of his arrangements, every little detail having been attended to. The annual race meeting under the auspices of the North Taranaki Hunt was held yesterday on the Taranaki Jockey Club's course. The going was excellent, and all the appointments and arrangements were in splendid order, and everything went well. The racing provided a few good finishes, but on the whole the winners were, not greatly punished at the lhiish. There were several spills, but none were attended with serious results. The scratching pen was very busy in several' fields which had accepted largely, and comment was made upon the number of members of the hunt who failed to send their horses to the post.
The Taranaki Garrison Band, under Conductor Cummins, rendered a programme of excellent music, the band showing a marked improvement. Mr. E. Whittle had the licensed booth, and Mr. A. Wooller, who catered in really excellent style for the club luncheon, had charge of the luncheon and refreshment booths. Six bookmakers were licensed, and appeared to do fair business.
The following are the results of the racing:—
HUNTERS' FLAT RACE HANDICAP, or S sovs; sweepstake of 5s each for starters to go to second horse. For horses that have never won a race on the flat. Minimum weight list.

Tawhare was half a dozen lengths away third. Kotare was favourite. Time, 2min losec. LICENSED VICTUALLERS' STEEPLECHASE HANDICAP, for trophies value 15 sovs. First horse to receive trophy value 10 sovs and second horse 5 sovs (subscribed for by the Licensed Victuallers' Association). Starlass's jockey had a good hold oi the mare, but she was maintaining her lead. Leaving the steeplechase course for the track proper, Starlass increased her lead, and Kura passed Dougall before leaving the track. Starlass finish- \ ed well nearly a hundred yards to the good, Kura being a dozen lengths on the lead of Dougall. Time, 4min 28sec. OPEN HACK HANDICAP, of 10 sovs, a sweepstake of 5s each for starters to go to second horse. Five furlongs. Mr. J. Smith's ch g Master Sylvia (Sylvia Park—Gipsy King mare) 3yrs, 8.7, (Barlow) 1 Mr. C. After covering five furlongs the clerk of the course got him by the head, but Silver Fox got away again. The starter essayed to catch him, N but failed, and the clerk oi the course held him after he had passed the stand a second time, by which time young Eva, the jockey, was badly done. Master Sylvia and Mississippi were left to contest the race, and the former won all the way, finishing hard held. Time, lmin 7sec.
LADIES' BRACELET HANDICAP, of 15 sovs, for hunters only; second horse 2% sovs from the stakes. Handicap steeplechase for all horses that have never won a steeplechase (hack and hunter races excepted) at time of entry. Gentlemen riders.

Kaipara and Cloudy Morn were the most fancied of a field of six. Barney was first away, Kaipara next. Cloudy Morn failed at the first fence, and although Mr. Wilkie remounted the horse was done. Barney and Kaipara led till the stand was reached the second time, and Kaipara was full of running when he caught Barney at the fence. Then he fell. At the back Tokomaru began to trouble the leaders, passing Barney. The rider of Bachelors' Buttons had lost a stirrup at the water jump, and though he came gamely was soon out of the ruimin" again. Tokomaru had it all his own way at the finish, and Bachelors' Buttons was six lengths behind Barney. Joker ran last all the way. Time, 4min 31sec.

Scotchman, aged, 11.0 (C. Street) J>
Scratched: Runa, Cloudy Morn, Dougall, Tirimoana, Kotare, Te Akau, Myra, Pompey, Bluey, Brenda. Starlass, despite her heavy penalty, was the favourite, and looked the fittest of the bunch. She led from start to finish. In the first few furlongs, Starlam was just ahead of Kura, with Grey Dawn lying third, and Flying Scotchman going farther and farther to the rear.
At the stand Starlass had a good lead from Kura, Grey Dawn, and Otehau. At the back Otehau replaced Grey Dawn in the third position. Kura fell at the first fence of the stand double in the second time round, and brought the rearguard to a standstill. Grey Dawn fell, and Otehau lost his rider. Both got going again, but Kura was unable to
proceed farther. At the back Starlass had about 250 yards to the good, but there was room for possibilities yet, for the mare was chancing her fences badly. The last fences were not serious ones, however, and O'Driscoll passed the post with about 400 yard's to the good. Grey Dawn, the second horse, finished very lame, and Flying Scotchman, who had never been "in the hunt," came a slow third. Otehau fell at the last jump, and it was some time before he could proceed. Time, smin a 2-osee.
HUNTERS' HANDICAP HURDLE RACE, of 15 sovs; second horse iy z sovs from the stakes, for hunters only. One .mile and a half. Mr. B. O'Riley's b g Taupo, 11.8 (R. Gordon) 1 Mr. J. Bowen's b g Tambour Major, 11.1, (B. O'Driscoll) 2 Mr. F. Aubrey's br g Roselake, 11.1, (Aubrey) 3
Scratched: Pleiades, Tokomaru, Kura, Starlass, Nightgown, Kotare, Prince, Renardeau, Otehau, Mvra, Singlet, Gilrook, All Black, Rawa', St. Myrtle. Tambour Major went to the front early, and led Taupo at the first hurdle, Tawhare running last. The same order was maintained to the stand, where Tavrhare closed up, but struck the hur■d/le badly and was shortly afterwards pulled up. Taupo began to improve his position, and at the back passed Tambour Major. He was never headed, and won by four lengths, with Roselake lialf a length away. Time, 3min 7sec.
