STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last* Night.. Mr. W. R. Thompson, of the clerical staff of the Stratford railway station, has been transferred to Wanganui. He is succeeded by Mr. M. Lethberg. The Cardiff Co-operative Dairy Co. have decided to consign the season's output through the National Dairy Association on open consignment. A special cattle train of 24 trucks left Stratford for Te Aroha to-day with 300 dairy heifers owned by Mr. F. Walters, late of Cardiff, who has purchased a property at Te Aroha. Prices at the wool, hides, and skin sale to-day were good all round and all lines were sold. There was a keen demand /or everything offered. As anticipated, the public are being asked to judge through the/correspondj ence column of the local paper between the rights and wrongs of Councillor W. ! H. Young's refusal to resign his seat on the Borough Council after his challenge had been accepted by Mr. J. McAllister. Mr. McAllister wanted an agreement signed by both candidates that Mr. Young prove the statements made in his challenge, and that Mr. McAllister will contend that the Company have fulfilled their contract and that Councillor Young's actions on the Borough Council have not been in the best interests of the ratepayers. A debate between the ( two. parties concerned is to be held, and the conditions specified. Mr. Young wants Mr. McAllister to specifically disprove his (Mr. Young's) statements and not to use or seek to. use the No License party's organisation during the election. To the man in the street there does not. seem any unsuperable difficulty to i surmount. Councillor Young says* the Company have not, been supplying satisfactory light; Mr. McAllister takes- up cudgels on behalf of the Company. The parties, in short, agree to confihe their campaign to the electric light system; the candidates are bound not to introduce other municipal matters in either their platform speeches or their addresses to the electors. That the voters are prepared, however, to make their , decision entirely on the one issue, is unlikely, and other matters will prob- . ably weigh with them in signifvkig their selection by maVinsr a- cross. But these are all phases which would enter into any election in which the candidates de- ■ sire to confine the discussion on their ; part to certain defined clear-cut issues. , The following are the scores in the s,' • bogey competition plaved last ■ j v.v i' •— A =ection: Miss F.
