GENERAL TELEGRAMS.
A BANKRUPT TRADESMAN. By Telegraph.—Pres* Association. Wellington, Tuesday. The case of a grocer who has left New Zealand and has not paid certain creditors was mentioned before Mr. Justice Chapman in the Supreme Court to-day. Appearing for Thompson Bros, and others, petitioning creditors, Mr. T. Young applied that the debtor, Alfred Frank Higgins, of Wellington, should be adjudicated bankrupt. Counsel remarked that Mr. Justice Cooper had already appointed a receiver in the estate and had ordered various advertisements to be placed in various papers in the Dominion. It had been thought that Higgins was still in New Zealand, but it was now ascertained that he was in Ilobart under surveillance. His Honour made an order of adjudication, remarking that when a man had left his business or home without communicating with or providing for his creditors I that was a case above all others where. there should be prompt ad judication., The petition would be heard immediately, and the petitioning creditors would not be required to attend.
