Mr. Batchelor (Minister for External Affairs) received a letter from Sir J. G. Ward in regard to the Radio Telegraph Conference to be held iji Melbourne. Sir Joseph says that the New Zealand Government, views the proposal with much interest,, 'and is desirous of promoting it. He proposed to ask funds for stations in New Zealand', and a proportionate share for a Fiji station. Wireless communication was considered by the Government j especially important in regard to facili- ! tating the movements of the Navy, as well as being of immense value to the mercantile marine. He mentioned that tenders had been called in New Zealand with a view of ascertaining the cost of establishing stations.
