STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(From Our Own CorresjKir-.dents.) Strafford, Last Night On Saturday M:. J. McAlister accepted the challenge issued by Councillor Youn*j to contest a seat on the Oounei, and the public straight awer proceeded to discuss the chances of the two candidates. But it would seem in doing thin they were a trifle premature, as to-day it is announced that Councillor Young will not resign unless Mr. McAlister agrees to certain terms and conditions, which the latter will not agree to. In all probability the whole of the correspondence will be made public, and the ratepayers will have • chance of forming an opinion on the merits of the dispute. The death occurred at 'New Pljw mouth on Saturday of Mr. J. Tregear, who for the past twelve months has conducted a confectionery business in Stratford. The annual meeting of the Stratford Racing Club will take place to-morrow evening. ,
