FIRES.
OUTBREAK IN AUCKLAND.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, August 29. A fire partly destroyed a two-storeyed house in South street, Newton, at 3 o'clock on Sunday morning. The tenant, K. O'Neill, was awakened by crackling, and found the house full of smoke. He and his wife escaped from an upstairs window to the verandah, and thence by a rope and fire escape. The house was owned by Mrs. Schoefield. The damage to the house is about £SO.
