The Petone (Blackball Coal Co.'s collier) left on Saturday afternoon for Onenunga with the balance of her cargo of coal. THE REGULUS. The Regulus arrived from Westport on Friday night with 160 tons of coal, for the Westport Coal Co. She left on Saturday afternoon for Wanganui with her remaining cajgo. THE "(ROSAMOND. The Rosamond, which had to undergo repairs at Onehunga in consequence of a collision with the Kini, arrived here on Saturday morning with a small quantity of cargo. "She left for Wellington about noon. 60,000 TON LINERS.
With the news that the Mersey Dock and Harbor Board have decided to commence the construction of a huge dock comes the important announcement that the Cunard Company propose to build liners of 60j000 tons each. The new dock will be large enough to accommodate these vessels. The quay berths will be suitable for liners 1000 ft in length, and there will be deep-water entrances so as to avoid delay in docking. The work, which will be carried out by contract, will be commenced in a few weeks and is expected to be finished in three years. The enormous advance in size which the new ships Jwill show is indicated by toe following, figures of some of the largest vessels, afloat or building:—Lusitania (Cunard), 31,550 tons; Mauretania (Cunard) 31,938 tons; Olympic. (White Star)' 45,000 tons; Titanic (White Star) 45,000 tons. The Hamburg-American Line have arranged for the buildinlg of a vessel wjiich will be larger than the Olympic .and Titanic.
It is reported that the Huddart, Parker. Co. contemplate ordering another steamer for the Vancouver trade—one larger than the ZealandiO. The new vessel will be of about 10,000 tons register.
