LABOR TROUBLES.
INTERNATIONAL STiRIKE THREATENED.
130,000 SEAFARERS AFFECTED.
By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Received August 28, 5.5 p.m. London, August 28.
The Times' Copenhagen correspondent reports that the International Transport Workers' Federation unanimously agreed to an international shipping strike, because owners refused to discuss the proposals of European seamen's unions for the establishment of a conciliation board. The date and time for the strike will be kept secret. The decision is a great surprise, and affects 135,000 sailors and firemen, including 70,000 British seafarers..
Many newspapers consider the Copenhagen report of the proposed strike premature and.furnished iby interested parties.
The Morning Post states that Wilson's proposal is defeated for the present. The Daily News reports that it is untrue that shipowners of the various ports declare themselves undisturbed, because the men are divided, and says Wilson's party is without funds.
BAKERS GO OUT. Sydney, August 27. The Broken Hill operative bakers and bread carters have struck work. The trouble was brought about through the efforts of the combined unions to fix the .price of bread so as to enable their cooperative bakery to make a. profit. They wished to raise the price from threepence to fourpence for the two-pound loaf. The masters held out. The masters are doing as much work as postsible. No question of wages or hours is involved. PERTH TRAMWAYMEN'S STRIKE. Received August 28, 5.5 p.m. Perth, August 28. The tram strike is dragging along. A fo- cars are running. There is some tVik of importing men from the eastern States. '
