ATTEMPT TO LOWER 100 MTT-H« RECORD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch Last Night. W. D. Oldman, the Christchurch cyclist, attempted to lower the 100 miles unpaced bicycle record between Waverley (sic) and Oxford this morning. Oldman left Waverley at 7.15 a.m., and covered the first 50 miles in 2 hours 30 minutes, despite the fact that he rode a/bout half a mile over newly-laid shingle. Half-way back he punctured one vf the tyres, gf his machine with a sharp piece of metal. On the second journey to Oxford, he encountered a strong northwesterly wind soon after passing Rangiora, wut derived no assistance from it. On the return journey tie completed the 100 miles in 5 hours 28 minutes 40 seconds, which when all is considered, was a »*ry line performance.
