In the Souse of Representatives a Ml to discontinue the {book-keeping system with regard to the payments to the States, which costs £30,000 annually, passed through committee. In the House of Representatives a Bill abolishing inter-State customs certificates, was read a second time without opposition. The Australian Note Bill Amendment, to place the control of the issue under a commission, was negatived. Mr. Fisher declined to accept an amendment providing for the payment of gold for notes at each capital, saying that it was unsafe to have too many points of attack in time of panie. Progress was slow, and the House was still sitting early this morning. lii the Senate a motion to subsidise the cable service was carried without division. Mr. Pearce said the proposal was not designed to holster up Labor papers. Several firms have offered to print banknotes, but the Government has decided lo do ilts work itself.
