TO-DAY'S MATCH. ! WELLINGTON v. TARANAKI. Great interest is being evinced in the Wellington v. Taranaki representative match, to*be played on the Sports Ground this afternoon. The ground was excellent order yesterday, and a une open game should ibe witnessed. The kick-off is advertised for 3 p.m. Special •train arrangements have been made.

TARANAKI. The Taranaki team will not be finally selected till this morning. There ,ire several serious defections from the original selection. Pini is unfit for play, having had three ribs broken on Tuesday in a Maori football match in South Taranaki. Taylor is unable to twvel, owing to a severe attack of influenza, and (Roberts, who arrived here on Tuesday evening, has also had to relinquish] all hopes of playing, for the same reason.' I Cameron, though taking the field,_Jias ■been considerably affected iby the prevalent "grippe," and is not up to concert pitch. Moir will take Taylor's plate at wing forward, and Milne fills the vacancy in the pack. Franklin will replace Roberts in the back division. The actual placing of the men is not /et decided on. McLeod be moved from full- back to three-quarter or fiveeighths, and.Franklin will then play at full. If not, the latter will probably; partner Mynott as five-eighths. Stohr, centre three-quarter, plays for the .Tukapa Club, and has a record as a scorer and .&■' place-kick. He first earned his fep cap, in 1907, when he played as full back in the return match with Wellington in that year. He nas been in the reps, ever since, and uhis year he represented New Zealand in Australia.

Mynott, the captain and veteran of the team, .'has captained the Tukapa 'Club for many years. His interprovincial record started .in 1899, and, with the exception of the season during which he was in England with the All Blacks, he has an unbroken record to date. He was selected on every. occasion but one for the North Island'team, was a member of three teams visiting Australia, j and played against, the British touring ! team.

Milne (Okaiawa) makes his first appearance as a rep. man. Whittington (Hawera) ,has represented Taranaki every year since 1905. He played against Harding's Anglo-Welsh team.at Wellington in 1908, and was a member of the 1907 and 1910 teams which visited Australia. 1 J. Ryan, Victoria College (formerly of St. Patrick's) plays centre three-

quarter to-day. Played full back against Auckland on Saturday. First year in representative football. Dawson, on the other wing, is a member of the Old Boys' team, and nas played for Wellington since 1005. McLeod, (Oriental), the captarn of the team, is 'a young player. He secured his representative cap in 1908. Kinvig, the second five-eighths, plays for the Oriental Club. One of the reliable place-kicks in the team. First year of representative football. * E. Roberts, the half, is a promising member of St. James' Club. Flays his first representative match to-day. Avery, the wing forward, docs battle Saturday after Saturday for the Old Boys' team. He lias worn the black and gold every season sinee 1905,' and was one of the 1910 "All Blacks'" team which toured Australia..

Eliott (Poneke) plays in the front row. He was a member of the Ponsonby team which visited Sydney last year. This is the first occasion when die pas sported a rep.'s jersey. R. Irvine, the other front-ranker, plays for Athletic, and represented his province last year. Previously -battlea iOi 'Albion (Christchurch) and North Shore (Auckland),. E. Perry, of the Oriental Club, formerly of Port Chalmers, is in his second year as a rep. T. H. Rapson (Athletic) is playing in representative company for the first time.

Leahy (Poneke) previously represented Wangariui for three years. This is his first year with the Wellington reps. Bruce, of the St James Club, represented the.North Island in 1909, and also played for his province in tnat year. •H. Moffatt, of the St. James' Club, played for South Canterbury and for the South Island last year.

Bell, a non-combatant to-day, is a member of the St. James' ' Club, and was promoted to rep. honours this season.

The Wellington team will take the field as selected, and as .published in yesterday's Issue.

NOTES. Mr. Williams, who acted as referee in the Auckland-Wellington match on Saturday, will referee in to-day's match. A meeting of the executive of the local Union was held in Hawera. on Tuesday evening in'connection with the Manawatu affair. The evidence of the proprietor of the Egmont Hotel and of the porter was taken. Mr. Hoben, president of the Manawatu Union, was present by invitation. The proceedings were not open to the Press. It is understood, however, that although.it was proved that there had been misuse ot the premises 'by someone, the evidence was inconclusive as to who was the actual perpetrator of the mischief. The members of the Wellington team had a useful practice yesterday morning, and were taken for a drive to Oakura, and to the' oil wells at Moturoa, in the .afternoon. The Taranaki team mustered seven or eight strong on .the Sports Ground yesterday, and Mynott gave the forwards some scrum and dribbling practice, and set the backs going in passing rushes. The West End Boy Scouts have undertaken the work of collecting funo* at the football match this afternoon for the Bayly Memorial Scholarship, and will also sell the programmes, the proceeds of the sale being acvuceu ca i.he same object. ' The scholarship is established to perpetuate the moiaov ai the late Mr. Alfred- Bayly, one of the giants of Taranaki's football p*st. The scholarship is to be allotted annually, and will be worth £lO annually, entitling the holder to college education for a couple of years. The Taranaki and Wanganui Education Boards have subscribed £5 each, the Taranaki Kwgoy Union £5, and the<New Zealarid .Rugby Union £SO towards the capital. Today's collectipns will be placed to the capital account, and further efforts will be made to augment the fund and add to the value of the scholarship.
