A CONVICTION QUASHED.
By Telegraph.— Press Association. ft Christchurch, Last Night. .*>' In the case in which James Loyd was - 1 sentenced at Kaikoura by Mr. Florence, * 8.M., to three months' for breach of a prohibition order, Mr. Hunt applied to $ the Supreme Court that the rule nisi on a writ of habeas corpus be made '< absolute. Mr. Justice Sim, in agreeing, remarked that the conviction on which . the warrant was issued was bad, and added that it seemed unfortunave toat >, the Magistrate did not take the trouble ?'* to read the section; as if he had doße • ' v so he would have seen there was no poAver to impose punishment in the first :■■* instance. ■ ■ ■'.
BREACHES OF PROHIBITION ORDERS.
