EDUCATION CONFERENCE.
OPENED IN WELLINGTON
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday,
The conference of delegates from the Education Boards throughout the Dominion met this morning. The conference is one convened by the Wanganui Board after consultation with other boards. Mr. F. Pirani, representing Wanganui, is chairman. He explained that the Wanganui Board moved in the matter because the Minister of Education had not stated his intention of calf-, ing delegates together this year. Referring to the proposed abolition of boards, 1 the chairman said he thought a conference w&s necessary if only for the purpose of giving them an opportunity of holding a tangi over their own funeral. The order paper, containing seventy or more remits, was divided into iour elections, and committees were set up, one to each section, to discuss and report-to the conference to-morrow. By this means it is expected business will be completed in two days. The Prime Minister telegraphed a cordial welcome and his best wishes. Mr. Fowlds is to be asked to attend the deliberations.
