(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Saturday Nignt.

The conference between the representatives of the Borough Council and the Electric Lighting Co. held last might, was at times very lively. :ihe ouject of the conference was to discuss the proposal of the company -that If they increased their plant the Council would guarantee to take over the concern at valuation when the Council decided to supply its own electrical energy. It was finally decided by the Council's representatives:—(l) ''That- tne v jm mittee inform the company that they j cannot advise the Council to agree to the suggestion contained in their letter j of the Sth.inst., in which they ask that) the Council should grant tliem a further concession 'no matter what may be | found to ibe the exact legal position be- | tween the two bodies.'" (2) "That the , committee inform the company that they consider it impossible to enter into negotiations with the company for the purchase of its undertaking rtntil th'e old standing contention as to the company's right to maintain its plant, etc., upon the streets of the borougn after the expiration of the jjie&cirt ueed of concession has been settled either by mutual agreement or a Supreme Court ruling."
