VETERANS' ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. The adjourned annual meeting of the Taranaki branch of the New Zealand Association of His 'Majesty's Veterans was held in the Taranaki Rifles' ordarly room on Saturday afternoon, when there was au excellent attendance. Colonel Ellis, V.D., vice-president, presided. The balance-sheet showed that £ls 17e had been received during the year from members' subseripu ins, and the. expenses amounted to £ll 7s fcd. The balance-sheet was .»i»p -ed. In the discussion upon it, Lieutenant Davies suggested t|iat tlie committee should- present a report of the year's working when submitting the statement of accounts. In proceeding with the election of officers, the chairman explained that the Governor of the Dominion, Lord Islington, was president. Colonel Ellis was re-elected vice-president (really local president), Captain John Black secretary, Captain J. S. McKellar treasurer,, and Mr. F. W. Brooking auditor. The committee for the year consists of Captain Mace, N.Z.C., Sergeant Ronert Wells, Messrs. U. A. Adlain, F. Oliver, 0. dxenham, J. Kenyon, and W. Humphries. Lieutenant Davies declined re-election. Upon the motion of the cuairman, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the committee, who had carried out tho arrangements in connection with the picnic and rifle matches on VVaireka Day, and to the committee and all who had assisted at the supper on that eveningMr. Adlam moved, Lieut. Davies seconded, and it was ,resolved —That the thanks of the Association be tendered to the citizens of Xew Plymouth tor their kindness and liberality in donating prizes for the shooting matches. The thanks of the members were also tendered to the Wellington VetenUM' ' Association for their hospitality to local veterans visiting Wellington on the occasion of Lord Kitchener's visit. [ Several members eulogised the work [ of the secretary. Captain Black, whose desire to relinquish the reins was unanimously over-ruled. Some members de- [ clared that but for his efforts the As- . sociation would have laded out before i now. It was decided to vote the secretary an honorarium of £5 irom the funds. : Mr. Meredith asked if it was possible [ to include as members those men who \ had ibeen under arms but never under j fire, and who consequently had not re- . ceived n New Zealand war medal.
