THE KING'S SURNAME.
To the Editor. Sir,—l notice in looking over your personal notes of the 17th inst. a reference to the King's surname. Will you permit me to point out for the benefit of those interested that King George has no siurname at all? My authority is Mr. A. C. Fox-Ravies, editor of "Armorial Families," and I think it will be conceded that lie is the greatest living authority on such matters. He says in his preface to the sixth edition _ (just published), inter alia, that it is because his Majesty's ancestors in t'he male line .have always had territorial dignities and have never needed a surname from a period (A.D. 807) anterior to tihe origin of hereditary surnames, that his Majesty has no surname at all." -I am, etc!, . ARMIGER. Toko.
