Griffiths and Co., New Plymouth, are dn receipt of the following market report from their London principals, Messrs Mills and Sparrow, dated Bth July, 1910: .Rain has again fallen all over the country, making it very difficult for hay-making, and the loss to the farmers will be very heavy. Danish: The quotation is unchanged and the quantity which has arrived this week is considerably less than last. (Siberian: The expected increase has not yet taken place, but reports say that the butter is being held in cold store on the otheT side, so it is very probable that it will come here later on. There "has'been a good demand for all grades, and the quality generally has never shown up better. This butter is therefore commanding the bulk of the trade at the present time. French: There is no change in quotations and business in this description has been steady. The quality continues to improve and is now at its best again. Australian: The s.s. Oswestry Grange and the s.s. Essex both landed their butters this week, but we regret to say the demand has been poor, and we expect nearly the whole of the cargoes will have to be stored, as Siberian butter is monopolising the demand at the present time, and as the quality so far this season is satisfactory and prices being fairly reasonable, we fear that low prices will have to be taken if the sale of colonial butter were forced just now, so, that as butters are in good condition it seems best to hold them over for a while. New Zealand: The Athenic landed her butters this week, and as the quantity was small agents have been able to clear at satisfactory prices. Cheese.—'New Zealand: The arrival per s.s. Athenic was not up to the standard of quality that we have been getting this season. No doubt the cause of this is the lateness of the make, which, of course, cannot be avoided. Canadian cheese is now commanding more attention, as the quality continues to improve and whites are now showing better value than New Zealand, but colored are about on a level.
