GOVERNMENT OF PROFESSIONAL ■ ATHLETES.

At the annua] meeting of the Otago centre of the (New Zealand Athletic Union, it was (unanimously resolved that a committee be set up to consider the desirability of forming an association for the government of professional athletics in the South Island, representing society and competitors, and a committee was appointed to deal with the matter. This was carried, in preference to one moved ■by the president (Mr. C. E. Keast) that the Otago centre secede from the New Zealand Athletic Union and form a provincial district similar to that in Auckland.
