THIRD GRADE CHAMPIONSHIP. CLIFTON (6) v. WAIMATE (3). The championship in the third grade was decided at Stratford yesterday, when Clifton beat Waimate by 6 points to 3. The game was an uninteresting one, neither side showing the same class ,of play as is usual with both teams. With the sun and wind against them the Clifton team just about held their own. Waimate secured a mark in a good position after about 30 minutes play, landing a nice goal. The spell was more of a scramble than anything els'<, good chances being thrown away by both teams. In the secona speii ivth {earns livened up, Clifton scoring about seven minutes after the kick off. The game then became more open and interesting, a little ginger being enl'usea by •both sides. After a dribbling rush the ball went out close to Waimate's line. Cutting in quickly, Elliot, who scored the first try, again got over. After this Waimate made the game interesting and nearly scored on two occasions. i'he game ended without further score. Mr. A. Smart refareed.
