The Greek Patriarchate convoked the National Assembly to discuss the position of the Church. The encyclical states that there have been systematic and violent persecutions. Sometimes petty of-> fences have lead to the whole town being treated as though it was in revolt, while innocents were severely' punished and churches defiled, cemeteries dug up, priests arrested, and citizens beaten to death and tortured. The Turkish Government has forbidden the holding of the National Assembly.
