' THE WELLINGTON TEAM. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, August 16. The Wellington Representative Rugby team left for Auckland by the Main Trunk line to-day. Mr. Sweeney is manager.
THE CUIB FINAL. Possibly there is no need to remind the public that on the Taumata Plark, Elthain, to-morrow afternoon, the Stratford and Waimate clubs will play for the championship of Taranaki and the T.R.U. cup. Waimate has been the champion team for a few years now, and they are not going to part with the cup without a big struggle. The (Stratford team is reported to be in grim earnest in training operations, and the holders are fit as fiddles. With Taranaki's finest forwards on the one side, and a couple of New Zealand representative back players on the other, it is seen that the men engaged are of no indifferent calibre. Should the ground be in good condition, a North v. South trial match will be played as a "curtain-raiser," the teams exciuding, of course, the 'Stratford a.nd Waimate men. This will give the selector a chance of seeing Taranaki's reputed best sixty players engaged on the one ground on the one afternoon.
At the Tukapa social on Thursday next the shields presented by Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien for competition between the local clubs will be handed to the captains of the senior and first junior teams by the Club's patron, 'His Worship the Mayor. The preserftoation of Mr. E. Cunningham's trophy to the most improved senior forward will also be made during the evening
