Mr. Chatterton, on behalf of the settlers of the district, then presented Mr. Allen with a beautiful easy chair. Mr. Allen, in a few well chosen remarks, manKed all present for the nice present. Both Mr. and Mrs. Allen will be greatly missed in the district. The programme consisted of the following ftenim— Opening Hymn, No. 224 Sankey; recitation, "Over the range," Ruby Herbert; reading, Mrs. Iveast; recitation, "The Water Cart," Clarice Fuller; song, "The Children's Friend," eight girls; speech, "On Christian Character," the Rev. Mrs. Warren has been canvassing the district of late to raise funds in aid of Dr. Barnardo homes, and, I understand, only met with two refusals, many giving very liberally.
Messrs. Ansford Bros, have sold their / dairy herd privately at a very satis-l factory figure.
WAREA. The directors of the Warea Dairy Co. met on Monday afternoon last after tliej annual meeting. Mr. James Burgess I was again re-elected chairman. Mr. Burgess has been a director of this company for twelve years. The Farmers' Union social, which was to have taken place on the 24th inst., has been postponed until further notice, owing to the Okato Bachelors' Ball ! being held on that date, Mr. A. Clothier, who is installing the Ridd milking machine, has been busy lately with engineers fixing up the plant.
iScarletina has at last visited this district. Some small children are affected, and it is hoped it will stop at that, rind not spread any further, for if is not a thing that is wanted in this district. A case of scarlet fever has also broken out at Puniho.
The milk supply at the local factory is increasing considerably now, lor the farmers are getting the cows in. The factory has started to run every day.
The mission that has been held at Puniho for the last fortnight, will be continued for another week. The local • school committee met last Wednesday night, when it was decided to fence off a piece of ground and dig it lip, so as to start gardens at the school.
The fifth of the series of euchre parties will be held in the hall on Wednesday night. The repairing of the Warea road is progressing slowly, work having been started from the top end, where it is now passable. The lower end, however, is almost impassable.
