A deputation of shipping companies interviewed Earl Crewe (Secretary of State for the Colonies) re the action of the Government of the Straits Settlements in imposing a duty of '2O per cent, on freight in all bills of lading, returning the duty only to shippers outside the shipping ring, but giving power to recover deferred rebates.
