WORLD'S RECORD ASCENT. London, August 12. At Lanard, Drexel ascended in an aeroplane to a height of 0750 feet, over 1% miles, a world's record. Received August 14, 5.5 p.m. London, August 14.

Drexel, interviewed, said that while lie was climbing on the breeze among the clouds his limbs got increasingly cold during the last 350 feet, and he was benumbed. The rarefaction caused the engine to "spit." so that a greater altitude was impossible, making descent the safest. The descent was made approximately in four minutes. THE ALPS CROSSED. Berne, August 12. Captain Spelterini, a Swiss balloonist, crossed the Alps, accompanied by an Austrian Archduke and Bartfn Rotshchild.
