WORK AND WAGES.
SYDNEY SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE. By Cable.—Press Aasociation.—Copyright Sydney, August 12. The slaughtermen at the Sydney Meat .Preserving Company's works refused to work .yesterday afternoon because the sheep arrived at ten minutes past one, instead of at one o'clock. The Glebe Island Masters now offer twenty-five shillings instead of twentythree shillings per hundred for slaughtering sheep. Union officials are inclined to favor accepting piecework on those terms, and will place the proposals before a mass meeting to-night.
