STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(Fron Our Own Correspondent.), Stratford, Last Night. At a meeting of the Borough 'Council this morning' Councillor King was elected Deputy-Mayor. The members oif the Borough Council will act as pall-bearers at Mrs. Masters' funeral, and a wreath is to be sent •by the Borough Council on behalf of the citizens of Stratford.
I am sorry to hear that the young daughter of Mr. J. Butcher, buyer for Messrs. Dimock and Co., is seriously ill. As illustrating the truth of the adage that misfortunes never come singly, Mv. Butchers' two-year-old son had the misfortune to rick his hip the other day. Building still continues to be brisk. One resident will commence the erection of two houses in Fenton street shortly, and it is possible that he may build two more. 'I hear that several people are contemplating the erection of buildings in Broadway North. There seems to be a keen demand for houses.
At a special meeting of the Borough Council this morning the following resolution was carried: "That this Council places on record its heartfelt sorrow at the death of the 'Mayoress, Mrs. J. Masters, and desires at the same time to tender to His Worship the' Mayor and family its deep and sincere sympathy with them in their bereavement." The funeral of Mrs. Masters will be held to-morrow afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. C. West, of Huiakama, left this morning for a holiday trip to Kotoraa:
Messrs. Hall and Feakin, who are leaving the district, will be tendered a social °on Friday by the Pembroke Road School Committee. Mr. F. Gooch lias donated a ten guinea trophv to the local A. and P. Association for the best animal sired by his stallion Young Victor. A man named Biddingsfield was brought in from Te Wera this afternoon, suffering with a bad compound fracture of one leg, and was admitted to the hospital. It appears that the man was bushfalling on the Brewer road, some fourteen miles from Te Wera, when a tree fell on him, breaking his leg.
