Mr. A. J. Rossiter, Receiver of Land Revenue at New Plymouth, is in Wellington on official business. A London cable reports that the estate of the late Mr. Ross, "King" of Cocos Island, has been sworn at £207,796.

Mr. F. G. McLeod, formerly of Masterton, has been appointed to the conductorship of the Armidale Band in New South Wales.

Mr. W. Hutchens, who has been on a visit to England for the past twelve months to further his musical studies, returned to Hawera on Tuesday. Dr. J. M. Mason, formerly Chief Health Officer in New Zealand, returned to Wellington from London by the lonic the other day, says a press wire.

A cablegram was received from Vancouver yesterday, stating that Mr. J. Morey and Mr. G. Riamson will sail from that city to-morrow for Sydney. They should arrive there on September 5, and reach New Plymouth by the 12th ' Mr. Charles Mackie, who was resident for two years in London initiating the Home marketing scheme for the National Dairy Association, has been appointed secretary of the Patea Farmers' Co-operative Freezing Company. He takes up his duties on November 1.
