The INew Zealand Grand National meetingi opened to-day at Riccartoh in cold and dull weather. The attendance, however, was good, among those present being His Excellency the Governor, hir J. G. Ward; and the Hon. J. A. Millar. The racing generally was good, and was free from any very seriojs mishap, except that while contest iiiy the Grain! National Steeplechase, Audax broke a i hind leg .and had to be destroyed. The totalisator investments amounted to £'2u,'o(>, as against £20,794 on the first day of last year.
