DAIRY FACTORY MEETINGS.

WAREA. The fourteenth annual general meeting of the above company was held in the Warea hall on Monday afternoon. There l were over thirty shareholders present. I Mr. James Burgess, chairman of directors, occupied the chair, I The chairman gave a lengthy address [on factory affairs. The directors considered the results of the past season very good under the circumstances, but the cost of the cheese factories was a deal higher than had at first been expected. The manager, Mr. M. Taylor, and staff were very capable men, but the supply of milk was too small for the amount of 'buildings. He believed in manuring the land, as it had been proved that by manuring more milk could be produced. The methods of disposing of the output were unsatisfactory, but he J was of opinion Unit if the output was' put through tlu- -National i'.ury Associa- 1 tion it would receive a better price. He' also gave figures for the cheese prices for 1909-10, and the full tests for the j previous six years. From these figures it 'was seen that the factory and creamery (received milk from abouH seven thousand acres of land,'at an average of £1 10s lid per acre. The creamery] that had been asked for on the Carrrng-j ton road would be of no benefit to the company, as it would be taking supplies away Irani the Newell road creamery. Besides, if this company put up a creamery on the Carrington road the Okato company would erect one on the Puniho road, which would ruin the Carrington road creamery's chances. , The Motor Co. that was started some time ago for carriage of produce had not proved such a success as had .been anticipated, but a car was to be landed next month, which the makers, a".id the expert wre, were satisfied would do the work, and if this was so more waggons could be procured. Even notwithstanding the way the 'motors had been run this year this company in particular, had saved a considerable amount of money in cartage of produce, as compared with the horse waggons of previous seasons. The directors reported that during the season the milk received and manufactured was as under. Warea, 3,004,GoOlbs, giving 143,8011bs butter-fat, avertest 3.92; Newall road, 2,G10,5011b5, giving 100,3971bs butter-fat, average test 3.84; total: 6,275,1571bs milk, 244,1981bs butter-fat, average test 3.89. For buttermaking the butter-fat used was 79,454 lbs, the butter made amounted to 87,0511bs, the over-run being 10.3 per cent. For cheese making purposes at Newall road the milk received was 1,668,8221b5, with butter-fat content of 64,3011b5. Cheese made (factory weight) was l(i4,r 213-lbs. It took laiOlbs of milk to one pound of cheese, and 2.5»1bs of cheese were made from lib of butter-fat.

At Warea, the -milk received for cheese-making was 2,(i19,(i511b5, with butter-fat content of 100,3621b5. Cheese made (factory weight) was 2fi0,3921b5, and 10.061bs of inilk were used in every pouild- of cheese. 2.591-bs of cheese were made from each pound of butter-fat. The total cheese made (factory weight) was 424,(M011i5, and the sale weights showed 419,8011ba The amount remaining to. the credit of the profit and loss account on closing the books wag £ 593 7s 4d, and'out of this the directors had appropriated £349 Cd to provide for the depreciation on properties and plant,■ leaving a balance of £540 Gs lOd, out of which the directors recommended a payment of interest at the rate of 4 per cent, per annum on fully paid-up shares, wnicth would absorb £7B, and a further payment of %d per lb. on all butter-fat supplied during the year, which would amount to £3Bl 8s 9d, and leave £B4 18s Id to be carried forward to next year or otherwise dealt with. The average payment per lb of butter-fat for the year was 10.G5d approximately. thougli cheese did not realise anything approaching the prices confidently anticipated for this season, the directors were pleased that the price paid for but-ter-fat constituted a record for the company, and even after deducting the payments on account of shares, was equal to any payment yet made. Had the prices remained at anything like the level of the previous seasons, considerably over one shilling per lb butter-fat could have been paid. | The balance-sheet showed that £10,449 14s Id was advanced to sup- j pliers for milk, and salaries and wages absorbed £742 12s 4d. 1 Mr. Cassie asked whether a testing plant could be installed at the creamery j instead of bringing the samples down to the main factory to be tested. Mr. Burgess though the idea was all right, but it would not be very satisfactory to the manager at the main factory to have milk tested by a creamery manager Of course, the manager could go to the creamery and test there. The rpffit"'!!? favoured this method being adopted. Mr. Mac Donald proposed that once any shares are taken up they are to be" paid up the first year, instead of being left to spread over a longer period. —Lost. i Messrs. James Burgess and Geo. Jones were elected as directors. Mr. H. Cor-' bett was also nominated. Mr. C. T. Mills was elected auditor.— Own correspondent.

iJAiNUTA'HI. The first annual meeting of the Manutahi Dairy Co. was held on Wednesday last. The output of vheese has ibeen consigned for sale in London through the firm of Messrs Lovell and Christmas, Ltd., on a guaranteed advance, with satisfactory results. Out of the balance at credit-of profit and loss amounting to £025 Os lid, the directors recommended a further payment at the rate of l'/ t d per lb of butter-fat. absorbing the sum of £603 los 7d, leaving £2l 14s 4d to carry forward. Payments had been I made during the .season at the rate of lfld per lb butter-fat, which, with the addition of iy 4 d, .would bring the total payment up to I'l'Vid. Summary for season 1909-10: —Pounds milk 2,804,858, lbs butter-fat 115,920.3, lbs cheese 290.029, lbs milk to lib cheese 9.004, lbs cheese to lib butter-fat 2,557, average test 4.040. weight of cheese made 132 tons 6. cwt. 2qrs! 211b. It was resolved that out of the balance a£ credit of profit and! loss the sum of £lO .be granted to the] chairman of directors as an honorarium, and that the balance of £ll 14s 4cl Ibe carried to a reserve nccount, to be dealt with as shareholders in general meeting may determine.
