TRAINING OF CADETS
A -DISAPPOINTING MEMORANDUM. By Cable. Pre.-is Association.—(Jup\ngin Received August U, 0.20 p.m. London, August 9. The War Office, in a momovindum to the Territorial Associations 011 the subject of the training of cadets, approved °f gymnastics, Swedish drill and swimming, as producing physical fitness, and the fulness of mental resources, but purposely refrained from suggesting any set form of drill, military exercise or rifle practice. The Morning Post states that the memorandum is disappointing to those regarding the cadet movement as the foundation of national defence, and compares the Australian and New Zealand systems with the War Oltrie's discouragement, which, the paper says, is due to the fear of the bogiy -if militarism. The labor men of Australia. New Zealand 1 and Canada vie with the Conservatives in enforcing the lesson of service to the State.
