The judges of the whiter show essays have made the following awards for tiie prizes offered by the Employers' Association:— Class 1— Muriel Harker (Central School). 1 and special; Myra Rea (West End), 2; Kenneth Jury (West End), 3. Class 2.—Eveline Coad (West End), 1; Phyllis Wilson (West End), 2; Trevor Hawkes (West End), 3. Class 3.—William Matthews (Omata), 1; Cordon Saunders (Ngaere), 2; ivy Matthews (Omata). 3. Class 4.—George W. Richardson (Tnglewood), 1; Ruth Evans (Omata), 2. JUDGES' REPORT. The judges (Messrs. W. J. Penn and T. C. List), in the course of their report, remark: "Frankly we are disappointed with the essays. With very few exceptions the have failed to grasp the idea of, the competition. They were asked to describe, 'What I saw of New Zealand-made goods and local industries during show week.' Few have done this at all systematically. It i s noticeable, also, that all the Assays from one school bear a striking resemblance to each other in the train of thought, and tlle . expressions running through t lem, indicating that the master has tailed to appreciate that the essays were intended to be the unaided efforts of the pupils, written, for preference, under his supervision so that there would be some guarantee that the conditions were observed."
